Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) pale form

This is the second year I've seen a couple of these pale forms among the normal orange jewelweeds. The red spotting is still the same but it's over a pale yellow (almost white) background so it has an overall pink look. There were only two plants this year. I've collected a dozen seeds so we can try to germinate them in pots next Spring.

  1. I have only seen one plant of this pale form in five years of doing research on Impatiens capensis. Do you know anything about the form? Have you had success germinating the seeds?

  2. Hi Nicole,
I didn't get around to trying to germinate those seeds but will keep a look out for pale ones again this year. If you send me an e-mail by way of the link on the home page, I'll get in touch with you if I find more. I usually see one or two pale plants in this same spot, but there's no guarantee. Other than the pale color, they don't seem to be any different from the normal type. Oh and I'd love to hear about your research when you e-mail (hint, hint) ;0)
