Rosa palustris x 'Home Run'

Here's the new foliage of three of the palustris X 'Home Run' seedlings. With the recent rains they've sent up some nice canes. As well as they're growing, I'm hoping that they'll bloom next Spring.

  1. Nice! I'm a big fan of R. palustris. Totally underused in breeding.

  2. Thanks Joseph! You'll have to check out the other palustris hybrid I just posted. It's a hybrid with the obscure glutinosa as the seed parent. People don't know what they're missing by not growing glutinosa. Its foliage is more strongly scented than sweetbriar and instead of apple it smells like citrusy-pine.

  3. Very cool as well! I'm going to have to add glutinosa to my wish list. I've got a soft spot for palustris, because it was the parent of the first successful cross I ever made as a teenager. I've just had a great time going through your site. We have a lot of breeding interests in common! Fragrant columbines, tomatoes, kale... I'm even crossing teosinte and corn this year! Looking forward to following your blog and seeing more updates.

  4. Thanks, I enjoyed your Greensparrow Gardens blog too, when I stumbled across it a while ago. It might have been when I was googling "fragrant columbines". I remember having lots of hybridizing ideas in common from the old days of the RHA forum and the gardenweb forums too. So, it was really nice to see a familiar name and see that you were still as obsessed as ever [like me :0)]. Gotta run for now, but looking forward to talking more. Take care, Tom.
